Not Guilty

Issue 1 - £3.60

'Keep The Faith' interview

For those of you that didn't pre-order, this came out last week. I've not yet got round to viewing a finished copy, I only see rough work last year and even then it was looking great so I can only imagine what the finished mag is looking like.
I've got 2 books that I've had sat here for a while now, I'll try and get them plus the new mag up for a little review soon.

I can safely say that this mag is the best you will see in the UK so far this year without a doubt. Support and purchase this magazine and issue 2 will be released later in the year!

Check out the editors interview on trashfilter
Order a copy from keepthefaith.com for a very reasonable £6.

Keep The Faith

This magazine is GraffLondon approved

A mag I am looking forward to alot, I see some of the early rough work on it last year and if I were you I would be pre-ordering it right now. After it was supposed to be released in Jan, rumour has it that it was put on hold to collaborate with GraffLondon's 6th birthday...... Thats the beginning of March for those that don't know..

More soon, for now: http://www.keepthefaithmagazine.com/

Reply from London Handstyles

"London Handstyles was given a photo to use in the book by the bloke who is actually in the photo!!!!! That's not stealing is it?? It turns out Will Robson-Scott took it and LH never knew this. It has now been sorted out with Will Robson-Scott and everythings cool.
A few other images that are included in the book have been given with permission from people's own collections. This doesn't mean they have been nicked because they may have appeared in books and mags before.
LH wanted a few adverts only so they could help pay for the high printing costs. Not everyone has got rich Mummy and Daddies. Stop bitching behind computer screens and wait till it's out!!!!!!!!"

London Handstyles nickin' flicks??

There seems to be quite alot of talk about this. Seen a few comments on the blog post from last week, few more on the forum and more talk on other websites.
Just after GraffLondon was born came a magazine called Fatbucks, made by Ser FDC. I remember the owner of South London Loonies telling me he contacted them about using their photo's for the mag. SLL replied no but he used them anyway.. I, and Im sure alot of others wouldn't agree with this, then or now.
As a member of this website for many years I know exactly how easy it is to be accused of stealing flicks. People do seem to forget that many photo's get in different hands and all sorts of people try claiming photo's, and multiple people send the same photo's out for various things.
And I'm sure this is the case with this new book. Simply many people owning the same photo's and just different people sending them, saying these are all mine, feel free to use them.
I know who is involved with creating this book, and I know a few people that have had 'hands on' already and say its great.
I don't know why people are getting all arsey about it, it is just tags at the end of the day.... But well done to those involved, I'm sure everything is legit with it all.. Look forward to seeing it. Not like London has alot to show these days...

I know there are a couple more books and mags that are coming out this year. Will keep you posted with the latest from them, if you are involved then send updates our way. GraffLondon magazine and film both out summer 2012, will be the best thing in London since Futura's first visit........

Ghost Book

Writers United

The critically acclaimed book Writers United has
been reprinted!

OUT June 2009

Writers United was a groundbreaking report and photo book when it was
first released in 2005. Since then, it has inspired photographers and journalists
worldwide. But Writers United still remains as a standard work in the genre.
After having been sold out for a few years, it is now being issued in a revised
edition.
Writers United offers a close-up portrait of one of the world’s most famous
graffiti crews, Writers United Football Club (WUFC). Six members with completely
different personalities but a common goal. Since the formation of
WUFC at a football venue in the Stockholm suburb Nacka fifteen years ago,
they have written their name on thousands of trains and walls throughout
Europe. Like rock musicians, graffiti writers charge their work with style and
attitude. And just like in any successful band, each WUFC member has his own
clear role. The hyperactive writers Uzi and Que are its frontmen.
For a couple of years, journalist Björn Almqvist and photographer Emil Hagelin
followed WUFC and a few of their friends. A new world is opened to the
reader through in-depth interviews and vivid reports. We follow them from getting
ready in their homes to getting into dark tunnels to write. All year round,
they risk injury and penalties to see their names on the trains. Their lifestyle
may seem hard to understand. Why do they write, how do they view their
work, and what kind of people are they really?

Like Lipstick Traces

LIKE LIPSTICK TRACES
DAILY LIFE POLAROIDS FROM THIRTEEN GRAFFITI WRITERS

Like lipstick traces shows the everyday life of 13 graffiti writers. Consciously, and therefore in contrast with usual graffiti publications, it uses the peculiar medium of Polaroid.

The idea was to send a Polaroid camera and about one hundred Polaroid photos to graffiti writers of different nationalities, with the task to shoot their everyday life, and to give them complete freedom in the choice of the motifs. It surely is this kind of freedom which makes this book so special, but also the fact that all these unpublished photos were taken especially for the book.

In the beginning of the 21st century, graffiti seems to be taking a line that is totally against its original motivation. On one hand, this might be caused by more severe penalties, on the other it is due to the increasing incorporation of the media and big business. Thus, we decided to present such artists who devote themselves to this art in a committed way. They do not succumb to commercial pressure and bring new life into this movement.
